Determination of fracture toughness using the compression fracture technique

Many engineering materials of importance can be mechanically characterized as brittle or quasi-brittle solids. Examples include many hard polymers, ceramic composites, and low ductility metals. Fracture toughness is the measure crack extension a function applied load resistance deforming material to advance cracking. In this investigation we use digital image correlation (DIC) for observing studying process macroscopic initiation propagation, linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) determine these materials. We will address issues such loading configuration stable growth, diagnostics identifying quantifying extent scheme extracting stress intensity factor at moving tip. The technique described in report has been different materials, but purpose illustrating application data processing scheme, choose following materials: graphite beryllium paper. This used any rate with only limitation being resolution which images captured.
